GentleMen, Good Morning
The Young Mens Adventure Weekend Society of British Columbia is in our 17th year.
We are having our YMAW this July 13 – 15 in the Wilderness near Vancouver BC
Since the beginning we have actively supported all men in the work of assisting, mentoring young men,
or as I see it, caring for the next generation of men
We support you by inviting all men to join our production team and help run the weekend
and see how it works from the inside. We are happy to give freely of our experience
and our mistakes, er, I mean lessons, er learnings, yeah, that’s it – what we have learnt,
no matter how convoluted or painful the process. Oh yeah, and we can learn from you too ! !
In the past we have had from 10 – 15 Outlanders on our team of 50 men, this is great cross-pollenization for all of us
The picture above was built by all the young men last year
As each team came around the corner a gruff foreman says
“In life you are going to build something, a house, a business, a family, let’s get to work’
They built a 9’ tall Inukshuk in 6 hours !!
If you are interested in joining us please read on – click here to see details for volunteers
GENTLEMEN, START YOUR ENGINE !!
Here we go again, for the umpteenth year…
I am reminded daily of the need and the place for the work that we have been doing here
I got two letters from our men yesterday about the deaths of two teens
Canon James in Berkeley and Kevin Leamont in Kelowna,
both died under circumstances that we aim to address.
The next generation of men is our responsibility, few people appear to be looking after them, few people seem to care enough to do anything about the mess on our streets – the challenges facing young men. Over the years we have seen that we DO make a difference, one teenager at a time. Often we don’t hear about any good we have done until years later, usually we never know, but there was a moment in their YMAW that we saw the spark in their eyes and they felt some of there strength and their potential.
Oh yeah, and occasionally it can even be fun
For those of us that have been around for a while, we know that this is just something we must do
Every few years it comes round to my turn to lead the thing again, the last time I did we had over 100 young men down at Hale Creek, and from that weekend the US YMUltimateW was born, they have now done more weekends than us, 3-4 per year
The Weekend is Friday, Saturday and Sunday, ( you might want to take off Monday for recovery) the pre weekend is24 hours of meetings and calls, your Maximum commitment is 5 days spread over 2 months
We are looking for a few good men to help put on this summer’s YMAW
